About the band! Wax is a seven month old funk band from bangalore that formed as a college band but went on to make a name for itself in a short span in and around bangalore..The element of funk came in as the band members wanted to try something different from the same old metal scene in bangalore. Although the band has a variety of influences from extreme to maiden to dave mathews band to anu malik(ok just kidding). Wax had its first gig in the form of a competition in CMC,Vellore(Pegasus 2005) which it won. Though the start was a little shaky ,the foundation was set for wax to become the band it is now, earning special mention for guitars, bass and vocals..This was followed by the band opening for arguably one of the best rock bands(moksha) in India. Apart from winning Campus Rock Idols(south zone) this would have to rate as one of the bands greatest achievements. Getting back to bangalore the band had a lot to work on including its tightness and stage prescence. The bands next competition at BMC was quite unexpected as Wax won the competition beating out bands like Extinct Reflections, Infinite Dreams and White Noise. This unexpected win led to a revival in their fading confidence and set their sights on SPANDAN (JIPMER). But excitement got the better of them as the band was “loose” and were quite bad compared to the high standards they usually set. Wax won individual prizes, second best keyboardist and second best vocalist in the form of Mathew and Narayanan(unni). The band returned home disappointed but vowed to make a name for themselves through hardwork and sheer determination. The emerging band then qualified for the finals of Vibe Rock and played a fun filled, tight set without their vocalist as he was at Chennai for other reasons. Slowly the band was being taken seriously. The band’s biggest achievement till date would have to be the Campus Rock Idols 2005 which took them to Goa for the national level finals. Wax won the Bangalore finals beating out immense competition from Black Earth. The south zone finals were held on the same day as the bangalore finals, where bands from manipal, hyderabad and bangalore took part for the top prize. The competiton was judged by international rock act RASMUS. Wax put up their best performance yet totally blew the crowd away with their stage presence and tightness. The band won first place as well as a special award for the best performer of the day which was bagged by the Narayanan, the vocalist for his vocal abilities and on stage presence. This propelled the band from virtual unknowns to “wax” and placed them in the rock scene in bangalore. Band philosophy Wax in its initial stages started off with a touch of metal, courtesy their guitarist jagan but this changed with the coming together of the other band members. The band had encountered a variety of people who ask them what the band philosophy is. Its plain and simple, the band name does not matter it’s the music you play. Wax has nothing against metal or musicians from that genre, in fact has nothing but respect for them. The band believes in doing own compositions as well as a few covers because after all its all about the crowd and more importantly the music. The whole joy of music is to jam in the band room and not only on stage and the joy of making music is something different. The band as such does not have a philosophy just a general belief in the power of music. Band Influences Wax has a variety of influences ranging from Maiden to Extreme. The influences range from Maiden, Extreme, Van Halen, Jamoriqui,Naveen Thomas, Thermal And A Quarter, Dream Theater, Marilyn Manson, Jaco Pastoris, Michael Jackson.
